Moving and Handling People & Basic Life Support (BLS)

Cost: £70 per person (+ VAT) for a 1 day, in-person, practical training course – 9.15am-4.30pm held at The Masonic Hall, 23 Hendford, Yeovil, BA20 1TQ

This course has been specially designed for self-employed carers who want to strengthen their practical skills and confidence when supporting those in their care. This 1 day course is split into two elements:

Firstly, you’ll learn safe Moving and Handling techniques, focusing on how to assist people with mobility needs while protecting both their safety and your own. The training covers correct body mechanics, the use of equipment, and practical methods for reducing risk of injury.

Secondly, the course also includes Basic Life Support (BLS) training — a vital set of first aid skills for responding to life-threatening emergencies. You’ll gain hands-on practice in assessing situations, ensuring scene safety, calling for emergency help, performing CPR with chest compressions and rescue breaths, using an AED, managing choking, and placing an unresponsive person in the recovery position.

By the end, you’ll have the essential skills and confidence to act quickly and effectively in critical situations while delivering safe, professional care.
