First Aid At Work + Forestry Elements (FAW+F)

The First Aid at Work +F (FAW+F) Course is a three-day course designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid in high-risk environments.

It’s aimed at those looking to undertake the role of workplace first aider on Forestry England (formerly known as the Forestry Commission) land, where they may need to respond quickly, safely and competently to any potential incidents or injuries.

This comprehensive course covers everything from general principles and incident management to cross-infection issues and legal considerations.

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a Forestry First Aider
  • Being able to assess an incident in a Forestry Environment
  • Identifying the signs, symptoms and history of a casualty in a Forestry Environment

  • How to administer first aid for a range of injuries, including:
  • checking an injured person’s airway
  • breathing and circulation
  • secondary survey procedures that assess overall wellbeing

Upon completion of the FAW+F course, successful participants will receive an accredited certificate provided by the FAIB regulated awarding body which is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

The certificate proves that those who have completed the programme are ready to take on the role of workplace first aider on Forestry England land or other high-risk environments.

When attending the FAW+F Course, it is important that candidates come prepared with suitable clothing for practical sessions, e.g. footwear for uneven ground etc.

However, all other materials are provided by us, including learning resources such as manuals/handouts/workbooks, refreshments throughout the duration of their training, access to defibrillators and other relevant equipment used during practical exercises.

Emergency First Aid At Work + Forestry Elements (EFAW+F)

Forest School First Aid

At Lightning Training Solutions, we are proud to offer comprehensive First Aid Training that is specific to the Forest School setting.

We aim to provide our students with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to safely administer first aid in an outdoor environment.

Our tailored Forest School First Aid Course has been designed to equip participants with the skills necessary for dealing with life-saving emergencies during their time spent outdoors.

The course structure follows the guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage practice guidance and statutory requirements.

This training opportunity can be extremely beneficial for anyone who spends time outside regularly. For example, this could include outdoor educators, forest school practitioners, bushcraft instructors, guides or any other outdoor professional.

It can also be a great way for parents and guardians to gain a greater understanding of how best to handle medical issues that may arise when out in nature with their own families.

Our Forest School First Aid Trainers are highly experienced professionals who have been trained over many years in all aspects of First Aid.

Our team will deliver detailed instructions on how best to respond in a range of different scenarios, as well as invaluable practical experience through simulation exercises and role-play activities.

Emergency Outdoor First Aid

Our one-day Outdoor Emergency First Aid Course is designed to provide individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond to emergency situations efficiently and effectively when professional medical help is not immediately available.

This comprehensive 8-hour (1-day) training course is designed to equip our learners with the skills necessary to assess any situation, dispense appropriate medical assistance, stabilise any patient while awaiting further medical help, and recognise vital signs and potential risks associated with outdoor activities.

Our course covers a variety of topics, including:

  • Summoning Assistance
  • Vital Signs
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Blood Loss

The qualification meets the requirements set by the Institute for Outdoor Learning band 2 training program, giving learners a deeper understanding of how best to act in an emergency.

We also offer practical scenarios in which participants can apply their new first-aid skills under guidance from our experienced instructors.

As part of this training course, we also cover basic safety principles for participating in outdoor activities and legal aspects related to responding to emergencies.
